The first Turkish diplomatic mission to the United Republic of Tanzania was established in 1979 in Dar es Salaam however it was closed in 1985.

Within the framework of our “Opening up to Africa” policy, the Turkish Embassy in Dar es Salaam has been recently re-established on 18 May 2009. The current Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Ali Davutoğlu presented his credentials to the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Jakaya Kikwete on 10 January 2012.
